Foundation director of the Fuli Institute and Professor in Food and Nutrition Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China; Visiting Professor, National Health Research Institutes, Taiwan; Emeritus Professor, Monash Asia Institute and Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He has also been Professor of Medicine, Monash University and Foundation Professor of Human Nutrition at Deakin University in Australia. He has played a major role in nutrition education, science, practice and policy for almost five decades. Mark has chaired the Australian Academy of Science National Nutrition Committee, Nutrition Australia (the Australian Nutrition Foundation) and the Food Safety Council of Victoria, has been a board member of the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (now FSANZ) was President of the International Union of Nutrition Sciences and chaired the Sciences for Health and Wellbeing initiative of the International Science Council. He chaired the Food and Agriculture Organisation Centre of Excellence at Monash University, was for many years on the World Health Organization’s Nutrition Advisory Panel. Among others, his scientific advisory roles have been to Harvest Plus at IFPRI and the Riddet Institute in New Zealand. He is now Emeritus Editor, but was Foundation Editor-in-Chief of the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
