Anna Lartey was a Professor and former Head of Department at the University of Ghana. She has worked as a researcher in Sub-Saharan Africa for 27 years. Her research focuses on maternal child nutrition. She was Co-Principal Investigator for the WHO Multicenter Growth Reference Study, which resulted in the development of a new growth chart based on breastfed babies. These charts are currently used in 125 countries around the world. Dr Lartey awarded the University of Ghanas Best Researcher Award for 2004. Dr. Lartey was the leader of the Ghana delegation to the Codex Committee on Nutrition for Special Dietary uses (CCNFSDU), where Ghana chaired the electronic working group to revise the Codex Guidelines on Formulated Supplementary Foods for Older Infants and Young Children. She serves on several international Boards and Committees. Dr Lartey served as a co-facilitator for the Civil society task force of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement. She is a graduate of the African Nutrition Leadership Program. She was the Chairperson of the Africa Nutritional Epidemiology Conference from 2006 to 2009. Dr Lartey is the current President of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS, 2013-2017).
