Senior Advisor and Former Director of the Institute of Nutrition,Mahidol University, Thailand. She holds a current position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of International Health, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests include micronutrient assessment, bioavailability and metabolism; micronutrient interaction especially of vitamin A and zinc or iron and zinc; and micronutrient and immune function.
She is currently a member of several international bodies and international committees: the Country Network Facilitator of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement; the International Zinc Nutrition Consultative Group; Steering Committee of the Micronutrient Forum; the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Partnership Council; International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) Strategic Advisory Council; the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) Scientific Advisory Council; the CIAs Worlds of Healthy Flavors Scientific and Public Health Advisory Committee as well as the Scientific Director of ILSI South East Asia Region.
She received her PhD in nutritional biochemistry and metabolism from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 1985. Her post-doctoral training was at the Vitamin and Mineral Nutrition Laboratory, Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, USDA, Beltsville, Maryland, USA (1987). She has published close to 60 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
